The Wall Street Journal recently outlined a few good ways to avoid missteps as an Estate Executor, or Personal Administrator, especially in terms of getting tax refunds for your decedent.

The article suggests using a fax machine to send in forms, calling to prompt IRS administrators, and realizing the process could take months or years given the processing time. It could take you by surprise if you’ve been listed as Executor or Personal Administrator of someone’s Estate and haven’t planned accordingly.

For those with Wall Street Journal subscription, the article referenced here was published on February 18, 2026, page A13.
